This guy I don’t know, Ian Perry, emailed me last week (after seeing my show) and asked if I could make some posters for his graduation recital. Normally I wouldn’t have agreed to do it, but he:
1. Is paying me
2. Had all these amazing ideas about the direction, style, look, etc. he wanted (60’s sci-fi horror movie poster inspiration). Sometimes that’s not a good thing, and a designer can feel trapped within the clients vision- but in this case, it was SO COOL.
3. He was sure to include all the stuff about what he wanted in the initial email he sent to me, which intrigued me, didn’t waste any time, and let me know exactly what I was in for. LOVE that. And when I agreed, he had three more very distinct and crazy ideas for the posters. They were all hilarious and really detailed. Really really. Also, he sent me a photo of himself being a scary doctor with big orange hair that I used for reference.
4. Responds quickly to emails.
So take note, everyone who wants designs from me (or any other designer), and follow Ian’s example. I had a lot of fun doing this, and it’s in the same style as my senior show. I’m regretting that I haven’t done too much illustration before now.
this is fantastic!
